Cell Block Psychic, PAT CAN HELP and September Dinner is HERE

Cell Block Psychic                  Victim’s Advocate                    Helping others – what can you do?

Connections made while watching show            This is hard enough as it IS (Possible Rant to follow)

the BAM the slap in the face comments everywhere, what a surprise.           If you don’t like it, don’t watch it.

We are doing what we can with what we’ve got, and we aren’t living in houses of GOLD (for me – far from it.)

_____________________________________________________________________________________

These are some thoughts I wrote down way back on July 2, after watching an episode of Cell Block Psychic so I wouldn’t forget.  I had never seen it before, and actually have not seen it since.  Flipping through the guide, I landed on a show with an interesting, catchy name – Cell Block Psychic.  (She wears an overcoat like this in a lot of the promo stuff…gotta love reality TV.  I doubt this is her normal everyday look…) Cell Block Psychic is how I came to meet Pat Pulley and her son, Jim.

I saw that there were a few shows playing in a row, so I taped them all, 3 total, to watch later.  I think this is going to end up being a series of posts around this very important day, so I hope you will check back later to keep up with what is going on around it, because something amazing began with watching this show – and it’s ongoing and unfolding still today.  So I’m going to pull from the list above and talk about a couple of things, then I’ll visit it again later, because like I said, this is the beginning, of something bigger.  Thank you for reading, and in turn becoming a part of it too.  At the bottom of this post, and in upcoming posts there will be an even bigger way to participate – if you choose to.

Oh and BTW this month’s diner has been set for September 17 at Buenos Aires Cafe –

A lot has been going on, so there is A LOT TO TALK ABOUT! If you are local – Austin – Join us!

OK so back to Cell Block Psychic.  In the show a psychic medium (Vickie Monroe – www.vickiemonroe.com) does something people apparently  (judging from comments about the show on the internet) either love or hate.  She helps families of victims of violent crimes heal from the experience by connecting with their loved ones – the ones killed, but also by connecting with their attackers or killers – who are in prison.  – /So I’m going to step in here for a quick second and share my personal thoughts based on my own experience./ – THIS IS NEVER EASY TO DO.  For anyone who watches this show – and I know the intention behind it is one of love – the show isn’t sensationalized really, and the producers do a pretty good job of just telling the story, they aren’t trying to take advantage of anyone’s grief or pain, it’s actually trying to do the opposite.  For some reason a lot of people attacked the show, which I think is too bad.  I mean seriously, people are going into spaces taunting spirits and stirring up energy – just for ratings.

YES, I am looking at YOU Zach/Ghost Hunters…this frustrates me to no end.  That’s another post entirely.)

OK enough of that.

Dealing with people who you know have harmed someone, is scary.  Going to a prison to interview someone – in a situation where you have no idea of what will happen or be said, I imagine, is terrifying.  Even in the controlled environment of a set, an inmate is a volatile element of the equation.  In my CASA work, I’ve had to sit across from people who I know have done terrible, unspeakable things.  AND CARRY ON A NORMAL CONVERSATION.  Being clairvoyant on top of it, I get another whole layer of the story.  So if you think this is easy, or fun, it’s not.  It’s just something that we are led to do, and something that must be done so that on some level healing can occur.  In Vickie’s case, Yes, there are cameras there, yes this is creating a show for – ultimately – ratings and entertainment.  But if you can help people along the way, and in such a deep and healing way…why should that be attacked?  I don’t know Vickie Monroe, but I can tell you – she was picking up the things she said she was, because while watching the show, I was also picking up on them – and other stuff, too.  And one story out of the three really caught my attention, and an individual stood out to me, and he wasn’t even one of the main characters, but an advocate brought in for additional information about batterers.  His name is Jim Pulley.

Jim’s mother was shot and killed by her abuser – her second husband, NOT Jim’s father.  They told a portion of her story on the show.   And Jim wrote a book about the experience – an amazing book that you can find here:  http://www.amazon.com/s?ie=UTF8&page=1&rh=n%3A283155%2Cp_27%3AJim%20B%20Pulley

I want to say a couple of things about Jim’s book.  When he handed it to me I knew it was something special.  It’s an interesting, unusual portrayal of abuse and murder from a peripheral viewpoint, but also from within the inner circle of the victim.  There are components that make the book fascinating on many levels.  There are references to Pat’s personal journals, words written in here own words, as well as actual police reports written by officers involved in the case.  If you are interested in forensics, CSI, or how police lead their investigations then this is a great read.  Jim does an amazing job of compiling all of this, as well as his own personal experience into a book that is an exciting, but also heartbreaking.  Especially for me because I know him, and his mom.  He is a wonderful, loving, giving, and in spite of his ordeal, happy man.  A man who loved his mother so much that he was able to wade through the waves of pain to tell her story.  And not only to tell her story and leave it at that.  No, not Jim.  He takes it to the next level.  He speaks to groups, individuals, anyone who needs to hear the message.  And the message is that EVERYONE MATTERS.  Everyone is loved by someone, and we all need each other.  That’s what I got from his book.  You can find out more about Jim and Pat Pulley at www.patcanhelp.com

If you have ever experienced abuse, know someone who has, or want to help someone avoid it in the future (I finished it and am giving it to both my 16 year old daughter and 13 year old son to read) – then pick up this book.  And don’t just read it, pass it along.

Initially, when watching the show I didn’t know why Jim stood out to me.  But he did.

And I heard, in my head, “You need to meet that guy.”  And I knew that I would.  Something else happened that day, and you can believe it or not, but it happened.  I met the amazing Pat Pulley too,  Jim’s mother who had been battered and killed by her abuser.

If you have been a victim of abuse and want to share your story, I am compiling stories that will be included in a book I am writing about the levels of abuse, what creates a victim, how to help loved ones that are being victimized and why some people remain victims and some do not.  I am asking people to share their stories so others may read them and connect – and understand they are not alone.  only first names and ages will be used, or you may ask to share anonymously.  Please, if you feel led to, or feel your story could help someone else, I invite you to send it in the form below.  Please if you know of someone who could benefit from sharing their story, feel free to pass this post along to anyone you like.  Sometimes even sharing, just getting it out there, even if it isn’t to be used in the book – helps.

One Note:  Please do not share stories from the media, or stories that are hearsay.  I ask is that you share only stories you or a direct loved one have experienced.  Anyone who sends a story agrees to and understands that they may be used in this publication, unless expressly requested otherwise.  Thank you, and let’s see what we can do together, to heal, connect strengthen and share.

Upcoming Events – Driskill Brunch and Psychic Development Tour

There’s lots going on lately, and I guess this post is a little late to “market” or “publicize”my table at the Body Mind Spirit Expo – since it’s TOMORROW…but I don’t care, I wanted to let everyone know about some cool upcoming TPSC events.  Oh yea, and I’m going to be at the BMSE this weekend, Saturday and Sunday – I’ve got a table at booth 3, so if you are there drop by and say Hi, I’m doing tarot and intuitive readings, if I can remember to I’ll take lots of pics and post them here.  🙂

It’s time to visit the Driskill again, I get tired of doing “Psychic Events” only around Halloween.  Psychic stuff isn’t scary, and for me this happens all the time, so I wanted to create something cool, special and fun – so I’m doing a Brunch and Psychic Development Tour in August, back to back since the tours are small – there’s room for 10 on each day.

I’m working on pinning down the date for the September dinner, which is going to be at the Buenos Aires Cafe on 6th.  It’s on the reservations page already, and I’ll update it once I’ve got the date set.  Some other events are in the works, I’m partnering with Austin artist Tina Schweiger – whose studio at Austin Artpost is a work of art in itself.

This is Tina – we met on last year’s East Austin Studio Tour…you can check out her work here:  www.tinaschweiger.com

I’ll keep you posted on that….for now – it’s time for chow mein.

Hello Spring, Out with the old and in with the new…

It seems spring is really here, and everyone’s ready to play!  Spring cleaning out of old thoughts and gigs that no longer serve us, what are you cleaning out this month?  Ending old relationships, tossing out ideas that no longer serve, making focus back to center, back to family, back to freshness – it’s time to try something new.  So let’s talk about that this month: and kick it up a notch – how do you “clear out” stale spaces spiritually?  Lacey, Susan and I just had an amazing home clearing experience…so let’s talk about CLEARING!

New Experiences, New Dishes, New Places to explore….What are you trying new today?  Don’t spend too much time inside, “spring cleaning” – breathing in dust!  Get outside and explore – Here’s a pic from beautiful Perdenales State Park – getting outdoors cleans the soul…

Last month we had Ethiopian which was…an experience!  Everyone had a good time, we had a laid back and casual conversation, mostly about the food and how to eat it!  Here are some pics – Habesha was quiet for a while, but then it got crazy loud so we had to leave – especially for those of us that are very sensitive to sound…  About the food, the salad was cool and refreshing and DELICIOUS!  The food ranged from spicy to WHOA!  Everything comes out in these little blogs on the plate and you use the spongy bread (which has a bit of a sour taste) to pick it up.  It’s messy, it’s funny, it’s an experience.  We had fun – I’d go back, but not sure about everyone else…anyone else want to share your experience?  So that’s Habesha.  If you haven’t been to a dinner in a while, we’d love to see you again.  If you know of anyone else who would like to join us, please help us spread the word.  We are working at growing the Supper Club and getting the word out that EVERYONE is psychic, intuitive, or whatever you want to call it.  We are open.  And we are HUNGRY!

Thanks for the head’s up Jeff…THIS month’s dinner – March

Hey everyone,

I got this note from Jeff a couple of days ago, after writing a post about the February dinner at Mother’s

How about information about the dinners Before they happen
instead of After they happen. ( When, Where, etc. )
I would like to attend occasionally, but I only get the email after
the dinners have already happened.

And it gave me one of those ah ha moments…Wordpress sends out an email when I make a blog post…but not when I update the site.  So you guys are hearing about the dinners AFTER the fact when you get an email.  I put the dinners up on the site, but wordpress doesn’t let ya’ll know that.  So I wanted to say thank you Jeff for taking a second and letting me know – of course – that you are finding out about the dinners too late.  I’ll start putting a post up when I add a dinner, then another about that dinner later.  And Jeff, hopefully we’ll see you around the table some time.  🙂

Here is the link to the March dinner.  you can make your reservation by clicking the BUY NOW button.

Mother’s Cafe, NDEs – Looking forward to March but not SXSW

February’s dinner was at Mother’s Cafe – a REALLY popular vegetarian/vegan restaurant in the Hyde Park area that gets pretty packed on Saturday nights, although it’s got a great comfortable vibe about it that doesn’t make you feel rushed or packed together like sardines.  On Saturday evenings they have live music, which when the guy showed up we all thought, OH NO – because we were afraid it was going to be loud, but on that night it was chill he played a xylephone type instrument that was made of wood.  Lovely background noise that is still easy to hear each other over.

motherscafe

If you go to Mothers – and you should – I HIGHLY recommend the Cheese Enchiladas with Verde Sauce.  Very Delicious!  Susan and Miranda got the Spinach Lasagna, which was huge and they said very tasty.  Kelly got Nachos which was also huge and very good.  I got a spice cake to go and that was nice and moist with great flavor.  SO – Mother’s Cafe – Tasty vegan/vegetarian, large portions, lovely atmosphere.  Try it.

NOW – ON TO THE CONVERSATION

bonnieandclyde

Susan brought a book about Bonnie and Clyde named Bonnie and Clyde: The Lives Behind the Legend by Paul Schneider – which you can read a timeline and the first 20 pages here – look for the free sample button next to the book.  She read it last year, and was surprised to learn that Clyde himself had a Near Death Experience.  That led us to a whole discussion on “coming back” to do good or bad.  Which lead to a discussion on free will, and how, interestingly, Bonnie and Clyde provided a diversion for the country during the dismal days of the Depression.

Sara brought a book too, named The Emotion Code by Dr. Bradley Nelson.  You can learn about that book here.  This book discusses something we all within the group know to be true – that you can hold emotions in your body and that doing so can lead to illness.  We discussed how past emotional traumas can be held in the body as well, causing weaknesses that can lead to injuries.  We had a lengthy discussion about body work since some of the members of the group practice Reiki and other body work.  We talked about different experiences we’ve had while giving and receiving Reiki, and how basic energy work can lend itself to overall strengthening of psychic abilities.  Good stuff.

Our next dinner will be at Habisha and we’ll be enjoying Ethiopian food together.  Ethiopian is different, there are no utensils and you pick everything up with this interesting bread.  If you’ve never had it, Habisha is some of the best!  The topic for discussion will be Channeling – and the different ways people channel, some people may be surprised to learn there are many different ways…some channel with Angels, some with Spirit Guides, others tap into energy and the actual person or event they are reading.  The next dinner is available online if you would like to check it out here, like I mentioned we’ll be steering WAY CLEAR of SXSW and Downtown.  So if you are looking for an interesting way to spend your Saturday night, minus the headache of finding parking, crowds, overall drunken foolishness – and would like to join us instead, you are invited!

Speaking of Channeling, on Traveling Psychic Supper Club Radio this week (3/27/14) we’ll be interviewing local Austin Psychic Jo Todd, who channels Invisible Presence Isaiah.  TPSC Radio is LIVE every Thursday at 5:00pm Central on www.paramaniaradio.com.  We welcome call ins at (919) 295-0150, have a chat room available during the show, and love to hear from listeners.  If you miss the show it’s always available afterwards on demand here.  If you have a show idea we would love to hear from you too!  You can always email me at deborah@travelingpsychicsupperclub.com.

Thanks for stopping by the blog, feel free to leave a question or comment, and if you are in Austin for SXSW, be careful and have fun!
